I’m a heathen naturalist.

Naturalist – a person who studies or is an expert in natural history, especially zoology or botany

Heathen – a person who worships the Germanic gods

Those are the definitions I’m using, anyway. I’ve loved nature as long as I can remember, and always knew I had to become some kind of biologist. I got my Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2005, and my Master of Science in Biology in 2009.

I was raised an atheist, but I always felt something that can only be described as “spiritual” when I was out in Nature. In college I discovered Neo-paganism, which seemed like a perfect fit. I considered myself a Wiccan for a few years, until an encounter with Odin in 2003 nudged me in the direction of the Germanic gods. Now I’m a polytheist and animist as well as a naturalist.

  1. I read your piece on blogging in 2016, and your thoughts really resonated with me. I’m trying to start up an inclusive blog hub with a range of Heathen voices. I really want to try and bridge the growing divide that the internet seems to force upon our community. I think it can be done, furthermore, I think your perspective would be a valuable addition to the community. Would you be interested in writing for heathenhof.com ?
(Note: If the website looks unfinished, it’s because it’s still under construction.)
I included my email in the comment info. Please feel free to write me any time if you decide you’d like to know more.

    • Thank you for the offer! I’ll have to think about it a bit because I’m not sure if I’d have the time to take on something like that, but I’ll keep it in mind.
